Abstract

One of the key policies in Thailand national 20 years strategic plan is to ensure all Thai population have a home. Thai government have many projects to build low-income housing both to sell freehold and long term leasing. The demand for low-income housing in Thailand is the biggest in the market as the majority of the population falls into this category of income gap. The government set out to building 100,000 unit of homes in 5 years to serve this market need but with the state of the worlds economy, limitation of resources and labor, the use of 3D concrete printing technology (3DCP) could play a role in that delivery plan. 3DCP technology has been widely used to build in many countries in Europe and America and commonly used in housing typology because its ability to build in controlled environment to ensure higher quality of building, effective cost management and time efficiency meaning more can be produced in shorter amount of time to help governments and cities around the world deal with housing crisis. Thailand manufacturing sectors already have abilities to produce 3D Concrete Printing buildings in commercial setting. Therefore, this technology is in no way new but it requires architectural understanding of technical limitations and local understanding of Thai lifestyle and local problems such as change in social structure into aging society, PM2.5 or recent pandemic in order to design a good suitable home via this technology. This research aims to find methodology of low-income housing design that is suitable for Thai local context and future lifestyle of Thai society and applicable to use of 3DCP technology to assist national 20 years strategic plan to help improve the quality of life of Thai people.
