Abstract

The objective of this prospective project is to examine evidence and produce documentary pertaining to Japan’s technology export to Thailand in the course of the twentieth century (1900-1999). The team attempts to develop ample insight based on historical evidence and interviews with relevant individuals in order to shed light on the use of specific technologies, including silk reeling machines, radio transmission tools, household appliances, agricultural machinery, and automobiles/motorcycles. This study also aims to investigate the dynamics as well as those challenges pertaining to technology transfer from Japan to Thailand over a century.
The purpose of this project is not only to examine the past, but also to take on a forward-looking approach to gain a better understanding of such relationship in the future, and to perhaps predict potential synergies between the two countries relying on the history of technological practices and transferences. This comprehensive examination shall be a consequential and useful contribution to Thailand's technology and innovation policy design. Furthermore, the outcomes of the study could be applied as a model to explore other countries with technology links to Japan in order to reveal how Japanese’s technology has influenced societies and shaped people's lives over recent history.
