Abstract

Far Eastern Curlew (FEC) is an endangered migratory shorebird endemic to the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. Globally significant numbers of FEC use Bako Buntal Bay (BBB), Sarawak, Malaysia, a site in the process of being gazetted as a protected area. Satellite tracking of FEC will be used to provide movement and habitat use data important in determining whether BBB will cover key areas used by species like FEC. This data will also speed identification of potentially new and confirm current important sites along the coast of Sarawak and assist government and local policy makers in making decisions for the management of the planned protected area.
