Abstract

This research presents a hybrid heuristic algorithm for solving a production scheduling of industrial packaging products to reduce the machine set up time. In the manufacturing, jobs are processed on 2 identical parallel injection molding machines called In Mold Labeling (IML). The machine set up time depends on the sequence of jobs to process and the type of films used. A proposed hybrid heuristic algorithm includes List Scheduling (LS) , Earliest Due Date (EDD) and Shortest Processing Time (SPT). The results from testing proposed method on 5 problems show that the makespans decrease by 2.2 hours on average and the machine set-up time reduces by 1.55 hours on average, or 30.19% from current machine set-up time.
