Abstract

This research aims to study energy harvesting using Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV) phenomena. In this paper, two shapes are of interest to compare the performance improvement of energy harvesting from VIV of the fluid flow. The first shape inspired by biomimicry desires to add a caudal fin shape attached at the end, while the other uses only a plain plate. The results show that a flexible plate with a caudal fin is better than a flexible plate without a caudal fin in terms of average amplitude displacement and frequencies. Furthermore, the Strouhal number of both geometries is 0.238.
