Abstract
This research is the application of sensor technology capabilities together with solving the problem of leaving clothes hanging when raining. The researcher has designed an automated rain protection clothes rack which uses "Arduino Mega2560"; the microcontroller activates the stepper motor which controls the operation of the belt to automatically open and close the curtain to cover the clothes drying on the rack whenever needed. In this research, we have experimented in order to determine the performance of the automatic rain protection clothes rack, considering the rotation speed of the stepper motor which activates the conveyor belt to open or close the curtain, the speed of the sensor to detect rain, the speed of the light sensor and the anti-wetness precision of the automatic rain-proof drying rack. The experiments found that the fastest time for the stepper motor to open and close the curtains is 29 seconds and the slowest is 31 seconds. The signal’s timing to the belt drive attached to the motor of the rain sensor and the light sensor shows that both sensors are fastest at 0.8 seconds and slowest at 1.2 seconds. Regarding the accuracy of the automatic rain-proof clothesline preventing raindrops from wetting the clothes that were drying in the simulation, it was found that from ten experiments, eight had 100% accuracy, and for the remaining two the accuracy dropped to 98%. Based on the above described, it can be considered that the automatic rain protection clothesline has a very good level of efficiency, being able to turn itself on and off automatically in a simulated situation.
