Abstract
Corrugated box design for ornamental plants was aimed to study mechanical properties of corrugated box and to evaluate the satisfaction of the sample group towards the packaging. The researcher had gathered sample groups’ usage behavior and their requirements. Two designed package patterns are formed, one by using KL150/KL150 B-flute and the other used KI150/KI150 BC-flute corrugated paperboard. The two types of packaging have been launched to measure the satisfaction and gain further advice from specialists in order to improve the structural design and test their mechanical strength such as; compression strength drop test and weight capacity. The results showed that the first pattern of both corrugated paperboard had 928.8 N and 1181.2 N compression strength respectively. While 2nd pattern of both corrugated paperboard had 1 1 9 3 . 8 N and 1 3 7 2 . 8 N of compression strength respectively. Conclusively, 1st pattern of both corrugated paperboard type could protect the ornamental plant and the pot from falling impact force. While the second pattern of both corrugated paperboard type had slight damage on the ornamental plant itself and yet no impact on the pot. Both patterns of the corrugated boxes had weight capacity up to 20 kg. The result showed that sample groups had fair satisfaction on first pattern of both corrugated paperboard type, with majority of the score weight on convenience of packing & unpacking. Meanwhile, sample groups also had good satisfaction on second pattern of both corrugated paperboard type, with highest score on the assembly convenience.
