Abstract
Disposing of infectious waste is a problem in many countries. This type of waste could not only post a potential health risk if it is not properly treated, but also incurs high management cost. Cost minimization alone does not suffice to address this problem. This research provides a multi-objective decision making model of a transportation network of infectious waste collection to transfer the waste to transshipment locations and disposal sites. The solution approach solves both social and economic objectives simultaneously. Priority weights of the objectives were found using the lexicographic weighted Tchebycheff method. The problem was solved by LINGO software to identify an efficient solutions for the locations of the waste transshipment and disposal as well as their needed capacities. The solution of a daily waste collection was tested against that of two-day collection to compare their benefits. A sensitivity of the solution when the amount of the waste doubly increased was also examined.
