Abstract

Universities have been complex organizations, comprising of houses, a variety of buildings and spaces, such as libraries and laboratories, as well as services – from teaching and research to housing and catering. Challenges to sustainability programming and engagement include the spread of geographically location of campuses and various academic and administrative departments which tend to have distinct identities and cultures. The objectives of this research are to compile some parts of knowledge about the conceptual framework of being a sustainable green university and how to adapt for green universities in Thailand, focusing on six areas: location and infrastructure, energy and climate change, water management, transportation, and education. Initially, a number of assessment and metrics indicator criterion in each international university ranking are presented with the analysis of strength and weakness point, followed by summary of main assessment and metrics indicator criterion used. Then the highlights of criterion used are discussed in more detail and compared one another. It has been observed that assessment and metrics indicator criterion from international universities ranking cannot directly be applied for Thai universities due to different context. Later on, recommendations on how to implement from each international universities ranking for Thai universities are presented. Finally, some different contexts under Thai universities circumstances are stated.
