Development of chitin nanofibers for smart packaging applications

Here, the improvement of properties of biodegradable packaging films to match those of petroleum- based films with the remaining of the biodegradable feature would be our interest. ChNFs extracted from shrimp shell wastes were firstly prepared and used to improve physical, mechanical, and barrier properties of chitosan films. Moreover, raw fresh bananas were coated with a ChNF/chitosan suspension, and their shelf lives were monitored.
