Abstract

This research is purposed to develop a Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory, examine the quality of Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory, evaluate the Grinding (CAT-Grinding) in Metallurgy Laboratory Competency Level of the learners, and to determine user satisfaction on the Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory. The sample group used in the study were 3rd year students who studying in the major of Industrial Engineering, Department of Production Technology Education Faculty of Industrial Education and Technology, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, academic year 2021, semester 2 which selected by Purpose Sampling method. The selection criteria included the student from strong, moderate and weak groups. The research tools used in this study included Knowledge Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory, Abrasive Skill Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory which consisted of Grinding Competency and Grinding Time Evaluation Criteria, and Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory Satisfaction Questionnaire. The statistics used for data analysis were Content Validity, Difficulty Index (p), Discriminant Index (r), Reliability, Mean and Standard Deviation (S). The results indicated that the Knowledge Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory has consisted of 20 items of 5-chioces Objective Test. The results of the quality assessment found that the Index of item objective congruence (IOC) is between -0.33 and 1.00, the difficulty index is between 0.27 and 1.00, the discriminant Index is in the range of 0.08 to 0.60, the reliability of KR-20 is 0.78 KR-21 was 0.72 and the α-Coefficient was 0.77. For the Abrasive Skill Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory which is a Rating Scale tool which evaluates through the product by considering 2 points as follows 1) direction of the sandpaper and 2) time used for grinding the product. The results of the quality assessment found that the Index of item objective congruence (IOC) is 0.5, the Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) index is 0.48, the correlation is at the middle level and Standard Error2 (SE) is 0.09. For the Desirable Characteristics Competency Assessment Tool quality assessment which is a checklist of 10 items about a defined list of behaviors to be performed found that the Index of item objective congruence (IOC) is between 0.67 and 1.00. Furthermore, Learners can illustrate their own performance level from the evaluation criteria by Competency Assessment Tool for Grinding in Metallurgy Laboratory.
