Abstract

The purposes of this research were to compare students’ learning achievements on the
volume and capacity of rectangular prism after receiving the Concrete Pictorial Abstract
approach with 70 percent criterion and to study students’ mathematical problem solving
ability on the volume and capacity of rectangular prism after receiving the Concrete Pictorial
Abstract approach. The sample of this research was a group of 26 students from Prathom
Suksa 5 during the second semester of the academic year 2022 from Watnang School. They
were selected by cluster sampling method. The research instruments consisted of lesson
plans using the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach, a mathematical learning achievement
test, and a mathematical problem solving ability test on the volume and capacity of
rectangular prism. The data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation,
and t-test for one sample. The results of this research found that students’ learning
achievement on volume and capacity of rectangular prism after receiving the Concrete
Pictorial Abstract approach was higher than 70 percent criterion at .05 level of significance,
and students’ mathematical problem solving ability on volume and capacity of rectangular
prism after receiving the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach was higher than 70 percent
criterion at .05 level of significance, and the problem solving ability development after
receiving the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach showed a better trend.
