Abstract
The automotive industry has been essential recently and competitive because it has domestic and international investments. Quality and reliability are needed for automotive part manufacturers. In this work, the industrial case study is the factory that has a problem with the production line of the rear axle housing model that cannot produce in time. So, this work aims to improve the production process, leading to an increment in working efficiency. The main points are reducing cycle time and waste in the production line. Work study, time study, cause and effect diagram, and why-why analysis were included to analyze and find the way to solve the problem. The way to improve the process was to share the operation that takes longer than the takt time to another station because it is low cost, less time, and very effective. The results showed that cycle time before the improvement was 252.88 seconds per piece and could be reduced to 223.15 seconds per piece after the improvement (reduced by 11.75%). The capacity was also increased from 233 pieces per day to 265 pieces per day (increased by 13.73%). So, this improvement could serve as guidelines for reducing cycle time and improving other production processes in the future.
