Abstract

Thailand is not only exposed to natural disasters such as floods, landslides, droughts and forest fires, but also to technological hazards for example chemical accidents. Among natural disasters, floods are the natural disaster with the greatest impact on human life, livelihoods and the country's economy. This study looks at flood disasters and disaster management at the administrative level: central, regional and local administration, including the role of civil society. Lessons from the greatest flood in Bangkok, 2011 and best practices for managing water resources in Tubnum and Bannma Subdistrict (TBS), Ayuttaya province include achievements and failures in disaster management as well as challenge and capacity building.
