Abstract
Hydrogen has gained attention as a fuel that can be produced using renewable energy and non-renewable energy sources. It can be used as feedstock for catalytic reaction and can also be used as a clean fuel in a fuel cell. Hydrogen production from water using solar light is a promising way to generate clean fuel and environmentally friendly. Among semiconductor materials, perovskite has attracted much attention recently for hydrogen production due to its properties such as compositional flexibility, excellent optical performance, and good thermal stability. The modifications of perovskite materials via doping or coupling with metal, non-metal, and cocatalyst have been effectively found to improve perovskite properties. These methods can reduce the energy bandgap and recombination of electrons and holes. This chapter summarizes the basic principle of perovskite materials, including the structure of oxide and halide perovskites with the synthesis processes. The solar water splitting system for hydrogen production, including photocatalysis, photoelectrochemical, and photovoltaic electrocatalysis, are also summarized. © 2023 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
