Abstract

In the industry, interns perform tasks that closely mirror regular employees. However, they often need a clearer understanding of their roles, leading to a development of competency. Therefore, this article aimed to applying self-directed learning via on-the-job training to develop interns' professional competencies and career awareness. This learning model includes two steps: firstly, identifying the work areas of interest for interns was conducted. Experienced staff would share insights about their careers. The second step focuses on technical skill development. Interns would gather information from on-the-job training. Staff members would clarify the work process to enhance interns' understanding. Interns wound learn from practice by completing tasks. Additionally, they would rotate through several sites to exchange knowledge. The current results indicated that the interns had a high degree of self-awareness regarding their skill development. These interns have improved their specialized tool usage skills. And gained awareness of job aspects of interest for the future. ฉ 2023 IEEE.
