This study focused on the thermal analysis and improvement of municipal solid waste (MSW) syngas combustion as a can combustor of micro gas turbine. The five represented different compositions of MSW syngas (Syngas 1, Syngas 2, Syngas 3, Syngas 4, and Syngas 5) were obtained by the plasma-assisted gasification process and were applied for this numerical study. As the thermal analysis, the average temperature of primary (Tp,avg), secondary (Ts,avg), and outlet zones (Tout, avg) of micro gas turbine were investigated and validated. The temperature distributions were studied by numerical model of methane (CH4) combustion characteristics in a can combustor of micro gas turbine which were validated with the previous works by 2.66%, 7.00%, and 3.81% difference of Tp,avg, Ts,avg and Tout, avg, respectively. The validated model was applied with five different compositions representing MSW syngas. The combustion of five compositions of represented MSW syngas significantly effects to lower temperature of three zones due to very low heating value compared to CH4. Among the lower temperature from the combustion of five represented MSW syngas, the temperature distribution of Syngas 1 was same as of CH4. Thus, the addition of hydrogen (H2) on five compositions of represented MSW syngas as same as heating value of CH4 was applied to enhance the temperature in micro gas turbine. In this study, the addition of H2 could have the potential to improve thermal analysis and enhance the temperature distribution as same as of CH4 combustion in micro gas turbine.
