Abstract
This research assesses the seismic impact on commercial
buildings in Chiang Saen district and demonstrates the
strengthening of buildings if required. The sample building is a
three-story reinforced concrete building with a mezzanine, five
units in total. The building is designed without considering seismic
force. The building assessment procedure and the seismic force
are evaluated following DPT. 1303-57 and DPT. 1301/1302-61. In
this study, the commercial software Sap2000 is used to develop
and analyze the sample building. The building performance in
terms of the demand-capacity ratio for each seismic forces level
is obtained. According to the results, the commercial building is
unable to withstand seismic forces in the design building
earthquake levels, and basic safety earthquake levels have a
demand capacity ratio over 1. Therefore, the building should be
strengthened. This article demonstrates examples of
strengthening by concrete jacketing. Similarly, in seismic-resistant
building designs, it was discovered that the cross-sectional area
of columns and beams had to be increased, resulting in concrete
quantities in columns and beams increased by 1 9 8% and 54 %.
Additionally, reinforced steel quantities in columns and beams
increased by 229% and 78%.
