Abstract

The hydrogen addition effects on flame stability of natural gas are investigated in this study. As the natural gas is the main fuel for power plant, it is important to study the addition of hydrogen to reduce CO2 emission due to the composition of hydrogen. This study focuses on the flame instability of natural gas with 5%-20% by volume and 2%-6% by heat of hydrogen addition. As the results, the addition of hydrogen by volume significantly affected flame stability, resulting in a flat flame at F<1.00, higher flame temperature, smaller cell size, and smaller reconstructed attractor. In addition, the less 6% increase of hydrogen by heat was treated due to the burning velocity and mixture velocity. The additional hydrogen on natural gas combustion could enlarge the flat flame range at F<1.00 and the blow off limit was observed at F<0.70. Moreover, addition of hydrogen on natural gas combustion could affect the flame temperature, reconstructed attractor, OH intensity and flammability limit which could enhance the natural gas flame stability.
