Abstract
This research aims to investigate the mitigation of heat
accumulation inside a parked car cabin through the use of ventilation
fans powered by a flexible solar panel. The experiment was carried out
with 5 door multipurpose car equipped with sensors and IOT devices. It
is conducted in Bangkok. Solar radiation intensity and ambient
temperature data obtained from Ministry of Energy and Meteorological
Department were employed to select the representative days for
comparative analysis of case studies during experiment period. In order
to minimize the solar heat gain, Global Solar Atlas, a web-based
software was used as a tool to determine the suitable orientation for car
parking. The experimental findings revealed that parking all day by
facing east resulted in the highest temperature at 59 oC. To reduce heat
accumulation, lowering windows for 1 inch and circulating air from one
side of car to another by using electric blower fans, in combination with
car sunshade could lower the temperature by at least 5 oC. The most
suitable parking orientation was found to be north facing with the
flexible solar panel installed on the car rooftop.
