Abstract
Tailoring the Ready-Made is an interior architecture design project that transforms the layout and appearance of a two-story single-family home in a housing estate to meet the needs of a new family. The redesign is executed within the constraints of a pre-designed product from the housing development.
The "Old" home belonged to a retired couple who purchased it from the housing estate. After living there for 10 years, their son got married and was expecting a child, so they transferred the house to him. The house, being a corner unit with a larger plot of land, allowed for expansion. The couple then moved to a house across the street, allowing them to remain close to their family.
The "New" home is for the new family, which includes a husband, wife, and young children. Although only 60 square meters of additional interior space were added, the new layout effectively addresses their lifestyle with a more customized space planning. It offers a well-balanced living space with private areas, social spaces, a pantry, and a functional kitchen, all tailored to the needs of this new family.
