Abstract
This research aims to investigate how the hardness of the surface of a metal S45C, that has been hot forged and heat treated, is affected by the parameters of the abrasive belt grinding process. The experiment was designed to determine the significant factors by applied design of experiment, and analyzed four factors: the cross-sectional area, the weight feed to specimens, the grinding period, and the abrasive belt stages, which included the size of the abrasive grains. From the surface hardness of the specimens initially was examined between 20 to 26 HRC. The results of the experiment that the surface hardness of the specimens was increased more than 26 HRC. As a results, the experiment identified three significant factors, which led to an analysis of the parameters that affect the surface hardness of the material. Those experiment found that as the abrasive belt wore down, it reaches a completely flat stage, which affects the stress that the experiment receives. Therefore, the research sought to examine the stress associated with hard material.
