Abstract

The integration of Yi ethnic graphics with contemporary artistic styles has emerged as a significant area of study. However, current research tends to focus on traditional art forms or general modern design techniques, overlooking the fusion of these distinct areas. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of layout design guidelines that incorporate the concept of visual flow. Thirty participants took part in an eye-tracking experiment, where eight pairs of images were tested following the guidelines outlined in a graphic design book. The findings revealed that only one pair of images aligned with the guideline. Notably, various graphic components, including figures, faces, and background images, significantly influenced visual flow. This conclusion underscores the importance of designers considering the complex interplay between attentiongrabbing elements and visual strategies that may regulate viewers' gazing behavior.
