Abstract
Photovoltaic ( PV) cells are devices can convert sunlight
into electrical energy. They can effectively produce
the electrical energy under the uniform shading conditions.
Practically, the PV cells may operate under the shading of light
conditions. Therefore, this paper presents the behavior study
of PV cells under partial shading conditions that affect
the IV curve, PV curve, and the conventional maximum power
point tracking via the intensive time- domain simulation
using SIMULINK on MATLAB. The partial shading effects for
the series, parallel, and series- parallel connected PV cells are
investigated. The results show that the series connected
PV cells that operated under the partial shading conditions
cause the several peak points in the IV curve and PV curve.
Moreover, the conventional maximum power point tracking via
perturbation and observation ( P&O) method cannot track
the maximum power point for the partial shading conditions
The study results are useful for the future research.
