บทคัดย่อ
The aims of this study were to prepare and characterize the blend film based on using thermoplastic starch (TPS) and lignin (Lig) because they are abundant and inexpensive natural polymers frequently considered green alternative polymers. The blend films were prepared by casting method at various lignin concentrations and starch types namely corn and cassava starch under using glycerol acted as a plasticizer to provide TPS structure. The properties of the TPS-Lig blend films were characterized such as chemical structure by FTIR, mechanical properties by tensile testing, and UV-blocking properties by UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results indicated that the FTIR spectra of the TPS-Lig blend films showed the peaks corresponding to the vibrations of the aromatic skeleton of lignin and the vibrations of the C-O stretching in the glycosidic bonds of TPS. The tensile testing showed that the corn starch films were a higher tensile strength and lower elongation at break than cassava starch films. Additionally, when increasing the lignin concentrations, the tensile strength was increased while as the elongation at break was decreased. The UV-blocking behavior of TPS-Lig blend films was enhanced with increasing the lignin concentrations. Thus, the TPS-Lig blend film is a suitable for UV-blocking packaging.
