Abstract
This case study concerns a residential design project for an elderly homeowner who previously lived in a single detached house located in Sukhumvit Road. The original house was more than 60 years old and had experienced recurring flooding every year, resulting in structural deterioration and making it unsuitable for safe long-term living. The family therefore planned to construct a new residence on a vacant plot of land on Ramintra Road, adjacent to the family’s current home, so that they could provide closer care for the elderly homeowner.
One of the key requests from the homeowner was to raise the house on stilts to prevent flooding. At the same time, the design needed to follow architectural principles suitable for elderly residents, such as minimizing the risk of falls or other accidents, using standardized and safe materials, and organizing spaces that support convenient daily living. The house also needed to accommodate visits from children in the future.
In addition, the design places importance on bringing the feeling and atmosphere of the original home into the new house, both in physical aspects and emotional experience. This includes architectural forms as well as other elements that help maintain a sense of familiarity and attachment to the place. Ultimately, the new residence aims to provide a safe, meaningful, and supportive living environment that promotes the long-term well-being and happiness of the elderly homeowner.
