This research investigates the implementation of an AC electronic load for active over-voltage protection in low-voltage distribution networks. The proposed system utilizes a dynamic clamping principle to mitigate power quality disturbances, specifically addressing sustained voltage swells. Experimental evaluations were conducted by subjecting the device to various test signals with fluctuating Root Mean Square (RMS) values. The results demonstrate that the clamping voltage remained strictly within the regulatory safety standard of 220 V ± 10%, successfully reducing over-voltage conditions whenever RMS levels exceeded predefined thresholds.
The system exhibited a high degree of responsiveness, with operational durations ranging from 10 ms to 1 minute, consistent with design specifications. By effectively managing these transients, the circuit provides a robust solution for improving electrical power quality within the Thai electricity distribution system. Furthermore, the application of this technology contributes to extending the operational lifespan of sensitive household appliances and industrial electronic devices. This study offers a more efficient and localized alternative to traditional protection methods, ensuring greater stability and resilience for modern electrical infrastructure.
