บทคัดย่อ
This research sought to study the fabrication of fine-grained polycrystalline beads of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals (3Y-TZP) as a result of particle creep during hot pressing. The effect of the mean particle size on the densification during hot pressing in the absence of a contribution from surface energy was investigated. Spherical polycrystalline beads were prepared by pre-sintering of spray-dried granules of 3Y-TZP at 1400°C for 2 hours. Three size fractions of polycrystalline beads, nominally 25, 45 and 75 μm, were hot-pressed at 1350°C for 1 hour using pressures of 6, 10, 20 and 40 MPa. It was found that a nearly dense (>98%) 3Y-TZP monolith could be produced at 40 MPa, while the fine grain size (0.3 μm) of the starting polycrystalline beads was retained. It was found there was no particle size dependence on the hot-pressing densification rate for a particle size range of 20 to 100 μm.
