Abstract
This article describes the design of zero voltage switching (ZVS) electronic ballast for 35 watt automotive high intensity discharge (HID) lamp. The proposed electronic ballast consists of 2 circuits. There are class E zero-voltage-switching resonant inverter and the ignitor. The ballast is class E resonant inverter, which operated in zero-voltage-switching. This circuit used matching resonant method, which combined the technique between resonant circuit π2a and resonant circuit π4a together. The ballast operated in 1 MHz and ignitor will produced high voltage for starting the lamp. The Class E resonant inverter operated in zero-voltage-switching, which decrease the switching loss in mosfet. The ballast circuit is designed to prevent in appropriate operations due to the acoustic resonances. The electronic ballast was designed of a dc input voltage 12 V, which assume for battery voltage. © 2008 IEEE.
