Abstract

Call-completion probability, call-dropping probability, and handoff rate are important performance measures of wireless networks. In this paper, we study the joint effect of channel fading and handover failure on these performance measures. For the case of Rayleigh and lognormal fading channels and for generalized distributions of the cell dwell time and the call-holding time, we derive simple closed-form expressions that closely approximate these performance metrics. The results are given in terms of the moment-generating function (MGF) of the distribution for the call-holding time and may be useful in the cross-layer design and the optimization of wireless networks. ฉ 2009 IEEE.
