Abstract

One-dimensional compression tests were performed on reconstituted and undisturbed soft clays. CRS (Constant-Rate of Strain) tests including multiple unload/reload cycles with relatively large stress amplitudes were performed. In some of the tests, sustained loading was performed at several intermediate stages during primary loading and cyclic loading. The creep strain rate at a given sustained loading stage during otherwise global unloading or reloading is controlled by the ratio of the stress at SL to the stress when the loading direction is reversed, not by the difference between these stress values. Representative tests were simulated by a non-linear three-component elasto-viscoplastic model.
