Springback is the phenomenon that is governed by strain recovery after removal of forming loads. The springback occurred in deformed part has become a major concern in sheet metal forming process of automotive components made of Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS), for example Dual Phase (DP) steel. Recently, most of structure parts of modern vehicles are very complex, for which multi-step forming procedures are necessary. Steel sheets undergoing pre-deformation can show considerable change in mechanical behaviour during the forming process. In this work, a study of influences of different pre-strain levels on the springback of a dual phase steel sheet has been carried out. The sheet strips were firstly pre-stretched to an uniaxial engineering strain of 4% and 6%. A modified U-shape (or S-rail) forming was used to verify the degree of springback of the steel sheets after pre-straining. In parallel, FE simulations of the U-shape forming were performed. Transversely anisotropic material models according to Hill's 1948, Barlat-Lian's 1989, and Yoshida-Uemori kinematic hardening models were applied. It was found that higher pre-strain levels could lead to an increasing in springback effect. The Yoshida-Uemori model showed better prediction of the end shape in comparison with other models. ฉ 2011 IBF (RWTH Aachen) & IUL (TU Dortmund).
