Abstract

This paper presents a novel topology of single-phase ac-ac converter with power factor control. The proposed converter can be operated in either buck or boost mode. It is practical, low-cost, and with a minimum number of devices. The control algorithms operate the converter under a wide range of operating output voltage, low harmonic distortion of ac input current and improved power factor. The closed loop controls consist of two main parts: dual dc voltage controls of two dc-link capacitors and ac output voltage control. Simulation results verify the performance of the proposed converter. A laboratory prototype is constructed and the control is implemented using a digital controller. The simulation and experimental results verified the proposed system that the converter is capable of input current control and regulate a wide range of output voltage. ฉ 2012 IEEJ Industry Appl Soc.
