Abstract
This work involved dynamic mechanical analysis and study of the tribological properties of natural rubber (NR) filled with fly ash silica (FASi) and precipitated silica (PSi). Weight fractions of FASi:PSi used were 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75 and 0:100. The friction and wear of the rubbers were determined using a ball-on-disc tribometer. Mechanical properties of the FASi/PSi-filled NR compounds were improved with increasing PSi fraction, resulting in a decrease in tan δ max. A 75% PSi fraction was recommended for optimal mechanical properties and wear resistances of FASi/PSi-filled NR vulcanizates. However, the coefficient of friction increased with increasing PSi fraction. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
