Abstract

Pool boiling as a heat transfer phenomenon that deals with phase change of working fluid has many industrial applications. Furthermore, pool boiling of nanofluids as an advanced type of working fluids has attracted considerable interest. In this chapter, a literature review of pool boiling of nanofluids is provided, focusing on the effects of nanofluid concentration, nanoparticles type, contact surface material, and surface roughness on the heat transfer rate during the process. The study shows that the sedimentation of nanoparticles on the heating surface is a key factor in the critical heat flux (CHF) enhancement. It is also concluded that the available data are not enough to identify the mechanisms of boiling heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids. Therefore, it is suggested to perform more experimental works on bubble dynamics, bubble effective parameters, heating surface characteristics, properties of nanoparticles and nanofluids as well as the operating conditions to recognize the pool boiling heat transfer of nanofluids. ฉ 2014 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
