Abstract

This paper presents a small-signal model of a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) in a simple single machine infinite bus system. The above model helps to investigate the effect of the change of the system parameters on system dynamics in a much simpler way. The non-linear model of a machine is linearized at different operating points and linear plant models are obtained. The STATCOM is modeled as a reactive current source with a time delay. A control strategy of the STATCOM is also presented to improve damping of the LFO in power system. ฉ 2016 IEEE.
