The middle income trap is escaped by an increase in gross domestic product (GDP). In Thailand, its achievement is mainly influenced by automotive industry as a production base. It has consequences on suppliers providing materials and auto-parts to motor vehicle assemblers (original equipment manufacturers: OEMs) and aftermarket suppliers (replacement equipment manufacturers: REMs). The escape from the middle income trap needs the optimal strategies considering all perspectives along the automotive supply chain. They are often generated by a strategic map designed through a tool of balanced scorecard (BSC). However, BSC is criticized as limitations because of unidirectional causality and internal focus. They are overcome by a causal linkage-based strategic map design along the automotive supply chain in Thailand. Its conceptual framework is proposed in this paper purposing to causally link the automotive strategies to operations. The causal linkages contribute to identify their root causes leveraging the RA vision and mission. This contribution is useful for policy makers to set the optimal automotive strategies interrelated systematically along the supply chain stages. ฉ 2016 IEEE.
