This paper proposes a new technique to design and implement the dead-time controlled PWM signals using a small and low-cost microcontroller. The PWM signal generator and controller are the heart of the DC-DC converter and other switching applications. The proposed technique utilizes the Output Compare modules and Timer modules of the microcontroller. These modules are the basis of most microcontrollers. It means that the proposed technique can be deployed to various microcontroller. This paper gives enough information for embedded developer to design, develop and write a program for generate PWM signals on their favorite microcontroller. A GUI application running on a computer and a MCU board are designed and developed to work together. The computer application work as a c-source generator and real-time PWM controller. The microcontroller board are designed as a universal experimental board. It supports wire and wireless communication. In the experiments, the calculated and generated parameters are deployed/written to the microcontroller. The Generated PWM signal including frequency, on-time and dead-time are closely examined by a high precision digital oscilloscope. The experimental results show that there are no error between the calculation results and practical results. ฉ 2017 IEEE.
