In this paper, the increasing TCP performances on data loss issue over wired and wireless networks by employing TCP freeze technique is proposed. The wired and wireless networks are simulated in Network Simulation version 2 (NS- 2). There are 2 transmission protocols which are TCP and UDP with the same and different packet sizes in the simulation network. For TCP, the packets are alternately transmitted for 1 second and paused with the different freezing time durations. On the other hand, UDP packets are transmitted continuously for 10 seconds. In addition, the throughput of TCP is used as the key performance parameter for comparing of different freezing time intervals. From the simulation results, when transmitting the same packet size of TCP and UDP at 600 to 1000 bytes TCP throughputs start to increase at freezing time duration 0.03 second about 5.39% and at freezing time 0.7 for packet size more than 1000 bytes. Furthermore, the longer freezing time interval will result to better TCP throughput in all simulation cases. Also, TCP throughput can be increased by increasing TCP packet size but UDP packet size is constant. Finally, the more ratio of freezing time duration to TCP transmitting interval can reduced more congestion in the network and result to better TCP throughput. ฉ 2016 IEEE.
