Abstract
The research studied Cement paste mixed with Headliner scrap properties. The results
of the research are intended as a guideline on the application of headliner. Type 1 Portland
Cement was mixed with headliner scrap in ratios of 100:0, 97.5:2.5, 95:5, and 92.5:7.5. The ratio
of water to binder (W/B) was 0.60. Then curing periods examined were 0, 7, 14, and 28 days.
The compressive strength, density, water absorption and thermal conductivity of samples were
measured. The microstructures were also examined. It was found that as the headliner content
was increased, the samples had larger pores and gaps which appeared in the cement structure.
This resulted in a decrease of compressive strength and density. The water absorption values
also tended to increase with headliner content. The thermal conductivity of the cement paste
was reduced to the 92.5:7.5 ratio without curing water. A thermal conductivity of 0.135 W/m·K
was the lowest recorded value. From these experimental results, it is suggested that the
material could be applied as a thermal insulator.
