Solid-state reaction is a chemical reaction of two solid reactants that creates new matter. One kind of solid-state reaction is photochemical solid-state reaction, where the reactions of solid reactants occur due to absorption of light. The simple concept of the reactions is the interaction between light and matters resulting in physical and chemical changes in the solid states. In the photochemical solid-state reactions, photoisomerization, photo-assisted chemical vapor deposition, and photocycloaddition are the methods that can be widely used to synthesize solid-state chemicals. The reactions can also allow the utilizations in various applications, including photovoltaic cells, solid-state photocatalysis, and electrochromic devices. The chemical synthesis and utilizations of photochemical solid-state reactions can be scaled up to industry-scaled ones. Furthermore, some is called green reactions or green synthesis because of most of these processes without solvent consumption. © 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
