Abstract

Currently, the development of circular productions focuses on the efficient use of natural resources and the optimization of waste management, is one of the main strategies for developing a sustainable economic. The utilization of low grade Caulerpa as a resource for bioactive extraction will decrease the environmental problem, while, increase the value of Caulerpa.

The objective of this work was to increase the value of low grade Caulerpa and use it efficiently as a resource for extracting polysaccharide which showed anti-oxidant and alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The work will investigate the optimal condition for polysaccharide extraction from fresh algae using cold press and agitation (algae-to-water ratio and temperature), and a suitable membrane for polysaccharide separation. Moreover, the characteristics of the extracts, anti-oxidant properties and the activity against alpha-glucosidase inhibitory were also studied.
