Abstract

This research project has three main objectives. The first objective is to apply engineering knowledge and technology to conserve historical sites. The research team has successfully implemented and gained recognition from various government and private organizations for commercial use in the tourism and digital industries. We utilize 3D object scanning technology combined with integrating knowledge from engineering, architecture, and archaeology to create 3D digital data of Thai temples. These digital assets will be further developed into digital content to promote cultural tourism through Augmented Virtual Reality (AVR Reality). The second objective involves using advanced computational mechanics, water management expertise, structural engineering knowledge, and 3D laser scanning technology to develop new knowledge and processes for evaluating and vulnerability assessment of Ancient Thai temples created in the Rattanakosin era in response to events such as earthquakes and floods. The in-depth research in this aspect will serve as a prototype for data collection, problem analysis, and conservation strategy policy for Thai temples, which will be relevant and suitable for future use. The final objective marks the starting point for creating a collaborative network in engineering, architecture, and archaeology. This network will enable appropriate policy-driven processes for future urban development while sustaining the cultural heritage of the nation. The outcomes of this project can be extended to create innovative digital content, allowing the new generation of youth and those interested in engineering for conservation to access deep academic knowledge through Augmented Virtual Reality (AVR Reality). These efforts will have a lasting impact on the conservation of historical sites and contribute to the economic growth of the country, particularly in the tourism and digital industries.
