Platform for bioactive peptide production and analysis in food and feed additives

At present bioactive compounds from bio-based resources are in demand for the market due to the market trend in functional food and functional ingredients. It leads to the large market size of functional ingredients, 5457 billion bahts worldwide and 68 billion bahts in Thailand with 4-5% market growth (TGD food and feed, 2018). Thus, the products that can enter this market has high potential in term of business. Therefore, the proposed analytical platform which can assist in the upstream process, identifying (i) the potential of the particular bio-based materials for the production of bioactive peptides and (ii) the enzyme used to generate bioactive peptide in the production. Moreover, the platform is able to perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of the bioactive peptides in the bio-based samples and identify their function based on comparison to the bioactive peptide databases worldwide. In addition to the known function bioactive peptides obtained by the comparison to the database, the novel bioactive peptides can be predicted using a bioinformatics tool (machine learning technique) in the platform. Thus, the proposed platform can help the private sector to achieve their goal in bioactive peptide production.
