Abstract
The purpose of this study was to look into how students decide whether or not to apply to the
Department of Mathematics. Academic Year 2021, Faculty of Science, King Mongkut's University of
Technology Thonburi. The sample group for this study was made up of 142 people. A questionnaire was
used to collect data, and it consisted of three parts: general information, a questionnaire on reasons for
continuing to study, and a questionnaire on reasons for continuing to study. The discriminant powers
ranged from 0.40 to 0.77, and the overall questionnaire reliability was .90. Percentage, mean, and standard
deviation were the statistics used to analyze the data. According to the findings, the university image (𝑥̅
= 4.42) received the highest level of opinion, followed by the curriculum (𝑥̅ = 4.19). For personal reasons,
the opinions were moderated (𝑥̅ = 2.83), respectively. The reason why some students did not choose to
study at the Department of Mathematics was most of their families encouraged them to study at other
universities and higher tuition fees than other universities. Students who have waived their admission
confirmation have offered suggestions on how the Mathematics Department could improve to entice
students to continue their studies; for example, the Department of Mathematics should provide career
information tailored to the needs of the labor market after graduation as well as the need to minimize
college fees to the greatest extent possible.
