Abstract

This research aimed to develop a Muang Wan knife, Nam Phong district, Khon Kaen province, to raise the community product standard.
The Muang Wan knife was a large agricultural knife. The blade is made from a leaf spring and quenched with water, which is a production process from local wisdom passed down from ancestors and not meet the requirements of any standard because the hardness of the knife is lower than the specified standard. This research began with the study of the problems and potential by observation and interviews with the Muang Wan knife forging group members and applying engineering principles to the development of blades. The knife sampling results showed that 6 out of 29 pieces had a hardness of less than 48 HRC, or equivalent to 20.69 percent, and had a pearlite and ferrite microstructure at the edge of the knives. Then, the research team applied the principles of metallurgy engineering to improve the production of knives and found the average hardness to be 53.036 HRC and that the martensite structure in the community product standard of the knife product standard meets all requirements.
