Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to study and compare knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of people
towards energy saving in the residential sector in Khlong Luang district, Pathumthani Province. 400 people were selected by the stratified sampling technique. The analysis is based on two main statistics: descriptive statistics (such as frequency percentage, mean, and standard deviation) , and inferential statistics (such as to test for the difference of two means and ANOVA for the difference more than two) . The results show that the overall level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviors related to energy saving of people in the residential sector are high. Regarding the ‘knowledge levels’, the results reveal that the sampling groups who have different graduated educational levels, monthly incomes, household members, detached house types, and average monthly electricity costs do have different knowledge levels associated to energy saving. It is, however, found that the residential types do not have an effect on the level of knowledge. That is the sampling groups living in detached houses or renting houses do not have distinctive knowledge levels related to energy saving. Furthermore, considering the ‘attitudes’ about energy saving in the residential sector, the sampling groups who have diverse graduated educational levels, household members, detached house types, and average monthly electricity costs would have divergent attitudes related to energy saving. Nonetheless, the sampling groups earning different monthly incomes have the same attitudes related to energy saving. Regarding the ‘behaviors’ towards energy saving in residential sector, the sampling groups having various graduated educational levels, household members, detached house types, and average monthly electricity costs, have different behaviors of energy saving, while the sampling groups earning both different monthly incomes and residential types do not show distinct behaviors of energy saving. As a result, to promote energy saving in the residential sector, the government should first focus on the groups with a small number of household members, groups with multi-storey houses, groups that live with other people and the groups with moderate electric bills. Through enhancing energy saving knowledge in these groups,
it should be possible to finally change their attitude and behavior towards energy saving.
