Abstract

To provide flexibility and prevent repetitions, this experimental blending of
extracurricular (prior learning experience) and in-class activities (reflective thinking) to construct
cognitive skills in 3rd year students, who had obtained vocational diploma, and required to
fulfill curriculum requirements in ethics and aesthetics course.  The learning activities include
analytical skill, evidence-based discussions, formative assessment and feedbacks.  This model
of learning did not successful.   Lesson plan was adapted to support students to achieve
learning outcomes.
Data of this experiment was gathered from students’ works, classroom interactions,
participatory observation, reflection, as well as After-Action Review (AAR). Data were analyzed
using content analysis and analytic induction.  The findings suggest that 1. Prior experience
differs from prior learning experience which could be distinguished by cognitive skills hidden
in the experience.  2.Self-awareness is a crucial meta-cognitive skill for ethics and aesthetics,
and also for intrinsic learning motivation
