Abstract

Plastic waste in Thailand is an environmental aspect necessary for systematic management. One strategy for controlling plastic waste should be the behavior of service providers and customers. This study, “Service Provider and Behavior of Plastic Bag Using in Tourism City: A Case Study of Phuket Province” aims to study the consumer behavior of plastic bag use in a tourism city. Participation and Non-participation techniques were selected to collect the data—9 times, with 3 observers, in department stores, local shops, convenience stores, and fresh markets. Each observation takes between 45 and 60 minutes per location. The results of this study found that types of service providers significantly affected the consumer behavior of plastic bag use at 1% level, especially convenience stores, department stores, and the walking street. Meanwhile, local and fresh markets were not significantly different at 1% level. The finding of this study was essential to set a target group of service providers in plastic waste management. Also, these results lead to achieving the goal as follows “The Thailand Roadmap of Plastic Waste Management 13th (2018 - 2030)” with the purpose of decreasing, stopping, and reusing 100 percent.
