Abstract

This paper presents the results from the research project “The Learning Space Creation and Development Through Living Lab, Urban Classroom and Participatory Budgeting: Case Study of Krung Kasem Canal Area, Bangkok” (2022-23). The main objective is to render the mechanism of learning space creation and district development through recognizing the importance of implementing the Quadruple Helix Model into the process. This model consists of network of collaboration between four main sectors: 1) the government sector, 2) the private sector, 3) the education sector, and 4) the civil society sector. Also, the Living Lab, Urban Classroom and Participatory Budgeting framework were applied in the research process. From the results, it was found that the stakeholders’ participation and Quadruple Helix process are the main driving agent for urban development. This process also points out key issues, problems, needs, and local knowledge which led to the creation of a project bank and city database that will be useful in the future development of the city. The results reflect positive impacts in the development of the city and the learning district around Phadung Krung Kasem Canal which respond to the development plan at the area level from the government.  This would also  lead to a cooperation in district development and exchange of city information, and knowledge transfer through collaboration between sectors to achieve participatory and good  quality urban development.
